Turning Point is a safe place where ALL survivors of domestic and intimate partner abuse and their children can find refuge. We provide services in Lehigh and Northampton counties and reach nearly 2,200 people a year through our trauma-informed, inclusive programs and services.  Those include: a 24-hour Helpline, Emergency Safe House, Empowerment Counseling and Groups, Legal Advocacy, Outreach Education, and Medical Advocacy.

Our Mission is to eliminate domestic and intimate partner abuse in the Lehigh Valley through empowerment, education, and engagement.

2020-2021 Highlights

  • 24/7 Helpline - 1,950 calls were answered by our advocates. This number was an increase from the previous year even though we saw a decrease in calls during quarantine.
  • Housing Program - A safe place and a refuge for 317 adults and their children who were fleeing domestic and intimate partner abuse. The average length of stay of Safe Shelter nights for survivors that they provided increased from 42 to 61 nights, which was an increase of 45% from the previous year. We were able to assist 33 survivors that were part of their New Beginnings Transitional Housing Program move into a safe place of their own.
  • Legal Advocacy - Turning Point Legal Advocates assisted 1,138 people with Protection From Abuse (PFA) hearings and 203 survivors in criminal court. Our advocacy in criminal court increased by 16%.
  • Counseling Services - 1,892 survivors received trauma-informed, empowerment counseling services to adults and youth experiencing domestic and intimate partner abuse.
  • Outreach Education - 4,275 children, teens, and adults in the Lehigh Valley about various topics on domestic and intimate partner abuse last year in spite of the pandemic.  Of that number, 98 of those trainings and 1,538 persons were hospital or healthcare providers.

What a powerful night to remember lives lost, honor survivors, and give hope for the future. Thank you to all of our speakers, allies, community parnters, musicians, staff, board of directors, vigil committee, and everyone who joined us in person for our annual vigil in person at the Civic Theatre. Many thanks to Lehigh Valley With Love for live streaming and recording it for us.

Annual Candlelight Virtual Vigil from Thursday, October 22, 2020

Even though we were not able to see everyone in person in 2020 due to social distancing, we felt it was important to continue our Annual Candlelight Vigil virtually. Please take a moment to watch the video as we remember those who have lost their lives, honor survivors, and give hope for the future.
