Turning Point is the Lehigh Valley's only non-profit organization that is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence. Our work involves educating and supporting abuse victims in order to help them discover their strengths and abilities so they can walk away from fear, isolation and desperation. We also believe it is important to increase community awareness of domestic violence through educational presentations and training seminars to various groups. We are proud of our accomplishments, from July 2010 to June 2011, we: assisted 3,210 adult and child victims of domestic violence provided 14,970 hours of counseling service to adults and children answered 3,730 calls to our helpline (an average of over 10 calls per day) provided 3,905 nights of shelter to 169 adults and 176 children assisted approximately 1,500 individuals who sought court advocacy services.
In addition, our Outreach Department connected with: 1,620 people through community education presentations - 1,621 medical professionals through the Medical Advocacy Project
And volunteers logged 4,332 hours of service to Turning Point.
A client's first contact with Turning Point is usually through the agency's 24 hour helpline, 610-437-3369. The helpline is answered by a person who will discuss the caller's safety, explain Turning Point's services and discuss options. When women, alone or with children, are forced to flee a violent household, Turning Point's emergency shelter, is here to give them a safe haven. The agency has the capacity to shelter 15 families each night. Other services include court advocacy, counseling, support groups, a family services program, and a transitional living program. All services are free and confidential, and are provided without regard to race, income, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, ethnicity or religious affiliation. |
